The word Music Career is thrown around way too much. Many rappers and producers are actually vocalising a music hobby they have and not living the music career they believe they have.

It’s one thing to say that, it’s another to make a definition between them. In this blog post i’m going to break down the difference between a music career and a hobby.

First of all I want you to watch this video, i’ve made it somewhat humorous but the message behind it is dead serious.

Do you have a music marketing budget? It’s one thing spending money on making music and buying equipment, it’s another to spend money on increasing your reach and seeing a return on investment.

This isn’t a case of just spending money here and there, this is calculating every penny you spend and making sacrifices. This is spending money on the price of living and allocating the rest on tools & resources that are going to push your music career forward.

This isn’t guess work, this is math & science.

Don’t know what to spend on?

Take a look around you, do you see go-getters and achievers? Are you doing business with/work with artists, producers and other connections that are actually going somewhere? Or are you entertaining bums and never-will-be’s?

Friends are all good but it’s like they say, if your four best friends are broke, then you’re the fifth.

If you’re playing around with people who are playing around, you’re not participating in a music career, it’s just a hobby. You need to be working with and networking with esteemed people who are achieving and making strides in their own music and business.

Not sure if you’re friends are good for you?
